August Update

Firstly, I’m quite impressed with myself with keeping these updates nice and regular for the last three months. Check me out…

Anyway – it’s been quite a quiet month really:

Sessions

Couple of notables to mention this month – firstly during my holiday in Cornwall (having a whale of a time hanging with Protection Rackets Dean Bowdery and his better half) I had a call for a soundtrack for a film called Scar Tissue – written and directed by Scott Michell with the score written by Radiophonic Workshop composer Mark Ayres. The drums were supposed to be tracked at my studio as a remote session but it was too far to travel back so Dean suggested Gareth Young’s (Atomic Kitten, Sugababes, All Saints, Danii Minogue) Cube Studios near Truro. A fab studio fitted out with sexy API, Focusrite and Neve preamps and a lovely SSL G Series desk. On top of that, Gareth had an ass kicking Mapex Orion kit there too so three hours after arriving we had what we needed and it was winging its way to the film dub session. Job done, back to holiday.

Gareth hipped me to some cool muso remote session upload/download sites you should check out:

Source Elements

In other session news, tomorrow I’m off back to my studio to start on a track for One Minute Silence’s Massimo Fiocco. A chance meeting led to me checking some of the new material he’s been writing. As a big OMS fan from back in the day, it’s an honour to be working with such a great writer and – so it would turn out – a fabulous person. We’ll see how the project turns out, hopefully it’ll be perfect for both of us. Stay tuned…!

Summer Schools

Had some great fun on the various summer schools -

Mine and Tim Browns Drum Breaks in Leicester kicked off a mad run and was a very successful few days. Next one to follow in January – dates to follow

I went straight from the to Freddie Gee’s summer school with my good mates Steve White and Craig Blundell. Much fun was had, great students and a great course. Fantastic to catch up with Damon Wilson who I’ve not seen for ages and to FINALLY meet Elbows Richard Jupp. Staying up til 3am drinking Whiskey and talking the world to rights.. think it’s safe to say we got on well.. total dude! Amazing drummer!

From there I did two weeks for BIMM – one in Bristol – again fab students and great to catch up with old friends – Reefs Dom Greensmith and the ever inspiring Charlatans stick maestro Jon Brooks. From there I spent a lovely week staying with BIMM Brighton Head of Drums Pat Garvey and again had a fantastic time there. A wicked night out with Skindreds Ayra Goggin and Mikey Deemus and spledid seaside runs and swims… nice – we did have some summer!!

Talking of BIMM I’ve just completed a module for course notes for BIMM Bristols new Music Industry Management course which is starting in October – VERY exciting stuff…!

Rhythm Magazine – Remote Sessions Feature

The last part of my three features on remote session went in the last issue of Rhythm Magazine – It’s been an honour to write for the mag, myself and the editor Chris Barnes will be chatting soon about some other ideas. In the meantime, the videos I recorded for the features can be found linked on my Youtube page here.

Cars On Fire

Lots of gigging recently – tours being booked, PR being sorted – the usual. Oh, in fact we filmed an insane video with our good mate Carl Shanahan for the track Borders. There was some complete carnage in the film… As soon as it’s out I’ll link it up. There’s two more video coming shortly after that.

As I say, it’s been a fairly relaxed month really – Should be a little more hectic next month… Stay dry…!
